Day of Healing Committee Logo

On Father’s Day June 16th, The Day of Healing Committee will be organizing its third community day of healing, this time in the Collet constituency at the Hostel football field.

The committee has staged similar events on Dean street and at the St. Martin’s Football field, both of which were extremely successful. The effort seeks to rekindle a sense of community and reconciliation in neighborhoods throughout Belize city, one neighborhood at a time.  Ultimately, the organizers hope to stem the tide of violence and subsequent fragmentation of the community by using a bottom up approach. After the shocking quadruple murders on Dean street in January, grassroots activists came together and staged the first such event. Using sports, family games and entertainment performances, an inspiring occasion for neighbours of all ages to come together had been created.

This time around the event will be significantly expanded, games, entertainment, rides for the kids. Food, soft drinks and water will be served. Parents and children from across the city, community leaders and police officers will be spending the entire day connecting to each other. Since the date is also Fathers Day, there will be special acknowledgement and prizes for deserving dads. Trophies and medals will be given out to the winners of the various activities. The event will have music and a special message oriented concert by many Belizean artists.

The committee, through this medium, is extending an invitation to YOU, reader, to partner with this effort by subsidizing the operation cost of this event with your cash contributions, whatever support rendered will go a long way towards making the ogals of this initiative being achieved. Support can also be given in the form of donations in kind or relevant services to assist the effort. There will be an extensive ads and PR campaign to build up this event on the radio, television and in print. This will give ample opportunity and spotlight for your organization to be displayed and mentioned as a premium sponsor and partner for this most noble venture, while the organizers understand that some donors would prefer to be anonymous, expressing public thanks and recognition is an important gesture. Only through authentic partnership between all the various components of our community can meaningful change be realized.
