The Belize People’s Front declares the following regarding the ludicrous statements made by the Foreign Minister, as it pertains to the death of Guatemalan, Tomas Ramirez.

We are astounded by the comments made by the Foreign Minister, regarding the investigation and subsequent actions to be taken, when the Belize Defence Soldiers exercised their inalienable right in defending themselves against personal and bodily harm and in executing their duty that they have sworn to do; protecting and defend the territorial integrity as enshrined in our constitution.

We ask this of the Minister; are Belizeans lives not worthy enough to facilitate professional investigators to assist our Police Department in solving the multitude of unsolved crimes committed against our hard working and young people?

Is not the memory of the young women murdered, robbed of their future, their selfless contribution to the society denied- and the mourning families they left behind, not important enough for him to care to give the Police Department the necessary tools they have been clamouring for?How many lives will it take before the idea of having our own DNA laboratory becomes a reality?

When the death of Belizeans in Guatemala, as in the case of murdered Pilot Edwin Javier Chan, is given the same importance as the death of the illegals extracting our natural resources in the Chiquibul, when the Guatemalans amend their national map to exclude Belize as the Eastern-most department, when the territorial integrity of Belize is respected at meetings chaired by the OAS, when the Ministry takes appeasement out of their mandate in dealing with the Anglo-Guatemalan issue, then and only then will Belize have its rightful place in International negotiations. When Belize dialog’s from a standpoint of patriotic Nation-Hood, of assertive and quintessential tactful diplomatic courtesy, with a mandate representing the state’s position, then we will make worthwhile and tangible progress.

We ask that our representation at present and future negotiations be done by able bodies versed in the extensive knowledge of international affairs along with the appropriate expertise in the specific matter being negotiated. We remind you that no government may rightfully adopt the posture or character of anything but servant.

The Belize People’s Front.
