Juliet Mallet Phillip, Representative of the OAS in Belize.

Dear Ambassador Lago,

The Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) will be conducting multiple activities in April 2013, specifically in Garbutt Falls, Aguas Turbias, and Gracias a Dios, all areas on Belize’s side of the borders, to which we kindly request the appointment of official representatives or observers:

April 6th – 7th: Brush clearing

April 30th: Mahogany tree planting

While the volunteers have successfully (without incident) conducted such activities in Belizean territory in the past, the presence of the OAS is especially important at this time:

  • to emphasize that these are intended to be peaceful exercises

  • in the interest of safety of the growing number of participants

  • to strengthen the confidence of the people of Belize in the OAS

  • to strengthen the mutual understanding between Belize and Guatemala

  • to foster mutual transparency

The work will be spearheaded in the area of Gracias a Dios by Wil Maheia, in the area of Garbutt Falls by Nefretery Nancy Marin, and in the area of Aguas Turbias by Orlando De La Fuente.

We trust that you will let us know if there is additional information we could provide that would be helpful.

Respectfully,

Samiyyah RIFQA Andrewin
